Sterling silver is crafted into a round, disc shape and then fashioned with an image of the Archangel Michael trampling Satan. The image of the Archangel has a raised finish; the background is matte-finished. The border reads "Saint Michael" at the top and "Pray for us" at the base. St. Michael is viewed in some traditions as the patron saint of policemen, mariners and those who are in battle. In the Orthodox Church, he is known as the Commander of the Heavenly hosts: "O ye foremost of the Heavenly hosts, we who are unworthy beseech thee, by thy petitions, encompass us with the shadow of thine immaterial glory, preserving us who kneel and cry ceaselessly: Deliver us from oppression, since ye are the princes of dominions on high." (an Orthodox hymn to the archangels).
