Oval St. Joseph Medals in Sterling Silver #8187

This engravable sterling silver, oval medallion of  St. Joseph depicts the saint holding Christ and a lily.  The image is finished with a satin-finish; the background is matte-finished.  The polished border reads "St Joseph Pray for Us".  The smaller, 18.75mm medal is icon-like, showing Christ with His hand raised giving a blessing; each size shows Him holding an orb, symbolizing the cosmos.  Available in two lengths: 18.75mm and 23.5mm (approximate 3/4" and 15/16" respectively), and includes a silver chain (longer chains available for an additional amount - please choose from selection boxes above).  Packaged in a blue velvet gift box.  To view in 14K gold, see #8184.  Add optional engraving to this order.

St. Joseph (also known as St. Joseph the Betrothed and St. Joseph of Nazareth) was a descendant of St. David the King.  He was advanced in years when he was called to be the Betrothed and protector of the Virgin.  In submitting to the fulfillment of the prophets' foresayings, and in his obedience to God, he is an example of putting the sacred above his own desires.  In some traditions, he is known as patron saint of carpenters and workers.  His feast day is celebrated on March 19 in the Catholic Church and on Dec. 31 in the Orthodox Church.
