St. Michael is the patron saint of policemen, mariners and those who are in battle.  He is also known as the Commander of the Heavenly hosts: "Preserve us who kneel and cry ceaselessly, 'Deliver us from oppression, since you are the Prince of the ranks of the Most High!' " (hymn to St. Michael).
