The Mezuzah (Hebrew for "doorpost") is often fixed to the doorpost of traditional Jewish homes. The first two paragraphs of the "Shema" (Deut. 6:4-9; 11:13-21) are inscribed on a parchment and inserted into the case. It is a reminder of God's presence and God's mitzvot (commandments)
