St. Andrew Cross in Sterling Silver
- Sterling Silver (.925)
- Traditional Orthodox Cross
- Ships in our Velvet Gift Box or Pouch
Crafted in polished sterling silver, this St. Andrew Orthodox cross utilizes three cross-bars. The top bar symbolizes the placard on which was written the charge against Jesus. The middle is where the hands of Christ were nailed, and the slanted, lower bar represents a footrest. Church tradition teaches that the diagonal position of the footrest refers to the two thieves crucified with Christ. The side pointing up refers to the thief who confessed faith in Christ and received the promise of paradise. The side pointing down refers to the thief who cursed Christ and received condemnation. The origin of the Cross is from the Apostle St. Andrew who preached Christ around the Black Sea region. St. Andrew used a large Cross of similar design in his preaching about the Passion of Christ and the fate of the two thieves crucified with Christ, St. Dismas, the good thief, and Gestas, the thief who cursed Christ.
