This beautiful, 14K yellow gold medal features a polished disc that reads "Confirmation" at the base. The matte-finished center is adorned with a chalice and the inscription "IHS", and two cherubim, one on each side of the chalice. Extra detail is added with beams of light that emanate from the inscription, and clouds beneath the chalice and cherubim. Surrounded with a high-polished, scrolled, open-work frame, it can be worn as either a charm or a pendant.
"IHS" is an abbreviation, the first three letters of the Greek name of Jesus. In some traditions, it stands for Iesus Hominum Salvator, or "Jesus, Savior of Men". A sacrament of the Western church, confirmation marks the point in which the grace of the Holy Spirit is bestowed through the laying on of hands, and in some traditions with anointing, upon one who has been baptized.
