This beautiful, inspirational medal portrays St. Peter, Christ's chief apostle and the first Bishop of Rome and Antioch. The image shows Peter holding a key and a book of the Gospel. According to Christian tradition, Peter was crucified in Rome under Emperor Nero in the year 64. St. Peter was crucified upside down, since he saw himself unworthy to be crucified in the same way as Jesus. St. Peter is also author of two epistles that became part of the New Testament.
St. Peter is the patron saint of old people who have lived long lives, people suffering from fever or foot problems, bakers, farmers, sailors, builders, locksmiths, butchers, fishermen, clockmakers, and shoemakers.
St. Peter's feast day is June 29 along with St. Paul. In the Orthodox Christian Tradition, June 29 is called the Apostles Feast in honor of Saints Peter and Paul.
