St. Jude, also called Jude Thaddaeus, was one of the twelve apostles. He is often depicted with a flame above his head, and sometimes is holding a scroll or a book, the Epistle of Jude. He is frequently shown holding an image of Christ, as in this medal - the icon of the Savior, Image-Not-made-by-Hands, also known as Image of Edessa. In some traditions he is the patron saint of desperate situations and of hospitals. His feast day is on October 28.
