Measuring approximately 1-1/4" in both width and length, this icon-style, "Our Lady of Perpetual Help", or "Theotokos of the Passion", medallion is crafted from high-polished 14K yellow gold and framed with a scalloped border. The center depicts the Mother of God, crowned, holding Christ; on either side is an archangel.
Known in the Catholic Church as Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the icon that this medal is fashioned after is called Theotokos of the Passion. The Theotokos (God-bearer), holding Christ, looks directly at the viewer, rather than her Son. On the left, the Archangel Michael carries the lance and sponge of Christ's crucifixion. The Archangel Gabriel, on the right, holds a three-bar cross and nails.
